The shortest answer to this question is nobady knows exactly who Satoshi is. Now let’s take a closer look at the assumptions made for this name.

Satoshi Nakamoto is the author of the famous Bitcoin white paper in 2008. The paper is called  Bitcoin: a peer-to-peer electronic cash system. Satoshi did not invent the Blokchain but created the first crypto currency using this technology. Bitcoin officially became active in 2009. Satoshi cut off all communications and disappeared in April 2011.

It can be a person or a group but according to Binance Academy, there are three strong candidates for the name Satoshi Nakamoto.

Hal Finney

He is one of the possible names to be Satoshi Nakamoto. Hal was an early user of Bitcoin and the recipient of the very first Bitcoin transaction. He also worked as a software developer and was one of the original cypherpunks in the 1990s.

Sadly, Hal Finney passed away in 2014 after suffering from a nerve disease that left him paralyzed for some time before his death. He always denied that he was Satoshi Nakamoto.

Nick Szabo

He is a famous computer scientist and invented the digital currency called “bit gold”.

His communication in cyberpunk, his writing styles, communication styles were quite similar to Satoshi. Although there are many similarities between the two, these similarities may be accidental. Nick also denied that he was Satoshi Nakamoto.

Dorian Nakamoto

Dorian Nakamoto is a Japanese-American man whose birth name is in fact Satoshi Nakamoto. He worked as a computer engineer for many years in the technology and finance sector. He lived in California like Hal Finney. Newsweek in a March 2014 identified Dorian Nakamoto as the currency’s creator. Newsweek claimed several similarities between Satoshi Nakamoto and Dorian Nakamoto. For example, both supposedly held libertarian leanings and a Japanese connection. (Dorian, who graduated in physics from California Polytechnic and worked on classified defense projects, is Japanese-American). The article’s author also claimed Nakamoto said he was “no longer” involved with bitcoin and that he had “turned it over” to other people. Dorian Nakamoto later denied the quote and claimed that he had misunderstood the question. He told the Associated Press, “I got nothing to do with it.” (https://www.investopedia.com/tech/three-people-who-were-supposedly-bitcoin-founder-satoshi-nakamoto/)

Dorian denied being Satoshi and said he heard from the press that he was unaware of the bitcoin project.
